Secret Treasure found in your Furniture – Part one: Upholstery, are you sitting on more than you think? Know when you need to repair damaged upholstery or replace the worn or damaged item and inside tips to save yourself money when you have hired a “Decorating” designer or consultant. Okay, so you have a great house and you have managed to acquire some comfortable and enjoyable furniture. You may be at the stage in your life when your family is young or you may be an empty nester or anywhere in between? You may have a dog or cat; who as master of the home, has decided to redecorate the place in a way that has harmed your most comfortable chair or sofa.
Regardless of where you are in your life’s journey, when leather or upholstered furniture is worn or damaged homeowners deliberate on whether to donate the item to charity, give the item to a friend or family member, or to investigate on how best to restore the furniture to as close to new condition as possible. Other occasions involve the times when a room or home is being remodeled, updated or simply that a change is needed and the homeowner is “DYI” {Doing the job themselves} or they have hired a professional or wannabe professional to orchestrate the changes.
When the time does occur, what do you do? In the case when the furniture is damaged, perhaps by a pet or small child; a person needs to remember that new furniture is not always as well made as it had been in years past and that replacing one piece {the damaged one} may end up as replacing many pieces. So I recommend that as soon as the damage is done, or as soon thereafter that you reflect on your willingness to effect repair on the item as quickly as possible. Why? Because small tears in fabric can be made much worse with little or no added duress and that padding or other materials can e compromised as they are exposed to soiling, shedding or debris.
